An exciting new form of psychotherapy that works at the deepest level of mind
BWRT® stands for BrainWorking Recursive Therapy®. It is a model of psychotherapy carried out in a conscious state of awareness. The process is relatively content free, so you won’t need to divulge your secrets and you don’t have to share the ins and outs of the problem. It’s totally confidential and usually gets quick results.
BWRT can stop anxiety (in trigger situations) from occurring. It reroutes the brain’s automatic conditioned response to anything that is perceived to be psychologically threatening, neutralising the old response, preventing the negative symptoms of anxiety from occurring and activating a preferred response instead.
With BWRT you can overcome mental or psychological blocks, create and reinforce new empowering responses, build confidence and move forward with ease.
Have you ever wanted to achieve success in some area of your life, but something inside of you sabotages your efforts?
Have you ever been held back by negative feelings like anxiety or fear?
Have you ever had a mental or physical block and just couldn’t do something you wanted to do?
Have you ever gone bright red or come out in blotches or felt weak in social situations?
BWRT helps to shift those stubborn responses and replace them with a new preferred response, for example being confident, calm and in control (or any feeling you choose).
People all over the world are experiencing breakthroughs with BWRT®.
It’s different. It’s innovative. It’s natural. It doesn’t involve drugs. It’s easy. It works for most people. It’s powerful.
The speed of thought is faster than you think!
BWRT® is the new psychotherapy for today’s modern fast-paced world. This neuroscience therapy is based on neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to rewire itself and make changes to the way you feel and the way you respond to situations, in a way that empowers you.
YOU choose the way you prefer to respond, and BWRT® implements the change. It’s fast and effective and you see results immediately. It can be used to CONQUER psychological and behavioural issues that cause you to feel disempowered or out of control. You decide what you want to change and how you would prefer to feel instead. It’s content free so you don’t have to discuss the details of your problems. You are always in control of the process. YOU choose the results you want and your brain does the work for you. What would you like to change?
BENEFITS of BWRT®: Apart from achieving the goal you set for yourself, you will find a positive ripple effect that spreads out to other areas of life too, bringing more confidence, calmness, positivity, high self-worth and empowerment – BWRT® puts you back in control.
Whether you choose a single session or a package of BWRT® sessions, you are in the driving seat. We work at a pace that’s right for you. For things like fears and phobias, it may take as little as one or two sessions. For more serious issues it will take more. We can work to your timescale.
Mary is an Advanced Practitioner and a member of the Institute of BWRT so you can feel confident that you are in safe hands.
Training covers: General Psychopathology; Psychology of Identity and Behaviour; Psychophysiology (mind & body)

BWRT works well for phobias too!
“Mary helped me with a fear of birds flapping using BWRT. The session was done over Skype/Zoom and I feel was as effective as if I was with her in person. Mary is very knowledgeable and was easily able to pinpoint my issue. Years later I am free of the panic and emotional response from a flapping bird, now they just cause me to notice them without a negative response. I feel calm and relaxed.
Thank you Mary, 10/10.”
Helen – November 2019
“I’m really pleased to inform you that I’m driving and I’m doing well !! It feels so good to fight this monster and win. I believe that you’ve helped me with this a lot.”
Klaudia – October 2019
BWRT is based on the latest discoveries in neuroscience about how the brain receives and stores information.
It is designed to help neutralise triggers for the symptoms you experience.
There are 3 levels and you will be asked some questions to determine which level would be best for you.
The number of sessions may vary, often between 1-4, sometimes more for more serious issues.
You will not have to divulge any secrets or discuss anything you don’t want to.
You only need to know what you want to change and how you would prefer to feel instead of how you feel already.
BWRT works with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, phobias, addictions, depression, gambling, eating disorders and more.
All BWRT Therapists have to undergo a full assessment of their skills and ongoing training to keep up to date with the latest developments.
“BWRT has the potential to permanently change the face of psychotherapy. Lives are transformed in record time without the need to uncover the source of the dysfunction, resulting in virtually instant benefits for the patient, like the reduction and elimination of debilitating symptoms.”
– Dr Ian Opperman, Clinical Psychologist
Research tells us that by the time a stimulus (event) has entered conscious awareness, it has already travelled approximately 50 meters of neural pathways in the brain. It travels at the speed of about 200 miles per hour through the network of neurons to find an appropriate response. According to neuroscience, the brain chooses what response to make by testing thousands of possible options to find the best match. It searches for a pattern, and the best match will always be one that was used before at least once and led to survival every time. If this response was accompanied by a surge of emotion it will be considered very important, and will take priority over other similar patterns.
The stages of brain evolution are explained by “The Triune Brain” concept, described by Neuroscientist, Paul MacLean, in the 1960’s. This idea is used in psychiatry to explain our psychological processes. It is not a biological representation however, and is purely used to simplify a very complicated system. McLean talks about 3 very distinct parts to the brain which he collectively calls “The Triune Brain” (shown below).
The early brain, which evolved around 500 million years ago, is known as “The Reptilian Complex” (sometimes referred to as the Lizard Brain or the Survival Brain) This is our survival control centre and is responsible for the essential functions of feeding, breeding, territory and aggression. It processes the information from the world around us, which is received through out senses, compares it with previously established patterns that already exist (or creates a new pattern) before any emotional response is triggered. There is no conscious awareness here, it is purely instinctive.
Later on (around 23 million years ago) came the “Paleomamamalian Complex ” a more complex Limbic System. This evolved to be more sophisticated than the Reptilian Complex. It processes emotions, motivations and is responsible for the reward system, however there is no conscious awareness here either.
For executive decision making, capable of thought and conscious awareness. This evolved around 2.5 million years ago and is considered to be the crowning glory of evolution (so far).
We all process information in a particular way. On the 200 mph journey through the brain, data travels through two areas of the brain that have no conscious awareness and by the time it gets to the thinking part (Neocortex) a decision has already been made, and action has been initiated based on past experience and pattern matching.
Every thought is the result of the brain’s speedy monitoring process. That’s why you may sometimes blurt out something without thinking, and then ask yourself “Why on earth did I say that?” During therapy, we use this speed to ensure your preferred response to an event is the chosen response in future. We work in the cognitive gap between commencement and awareness of a physical or psychological response.
The science behind BWRT® is based on the work of a scientist called Benjamin Libet. In 1983, his research and experiments showed that all decisions are made by the physical brain more than one third of a second before we know it, that is 330 milliseconds to be precise. In fact, a response is initiated by the brain before we are consciously aware, in terms of action, thought, feelings or behaviour. Neuroplasticity of the brain means that the brain is capable of changes throughout the life of an individual and things are “wired” into place with repetition. This discovery poses a lot of questions to do with free will and choice. However, using the power of BWRT® we can interrupt the normal response early on so that we make a new choice rather than just acting out an old unhelpful pattern.
What is BWRT® used for?
BWRT® can help change the automatic patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviour that cause the problems in our lives that lead to us feeling unhappy, dissatisfied or some other negative emotion. Some of the issues we work with:
Whether it’s a big thing or a small thing, if you know what the problem is and you know how you would prefer to feel, let me help you to make it happen with BWRT®.
Go for it! Make today the day.
